AEC Brochures

  • Brochure on Irradiation of Food
Summary: Food Irradiation is a gentle, non-invasive technique that uses radiation to keep food fresh and safe to eat. The major role of AEC is to define the radiation doses for irradiation treatment of food. This ensures that food is treated with a sufficient dose to achieve the intended purpose without compromising the quality of food. Click here for the Brochure >>
  • Brochure on Radon
Summary: The public is continuously exposed to radioactivity in everyday life. Some of the radiation human beings are exposed to carries no risk to our health. One source of natural radiation that presents a danger is radon — a radioactive gas with no colour, smell or taste. It is released from bedrock material and passes through the soil. • Brochure on Ionizing Radiation

Summary: Ionizing radiation is a form of energy released by certain atoms that has enough energy to remove electrons from atoms, creating ions. This radiation can pass through matter and is used in many fields, including medicine, industry, agriculture, and scientific research. Click here for the brochure>>

Summary: AEC regulates the transportation of radioactive materials in Uganda as per Section 31(1) of the Atomic Energy Act Cap. 154. Part XII of the Atomic Energy Regulations, 2012 provides requirements for safe transport of radioactive materials. Click here for the brochure.

  • Nuclear Security Brochure

Section 56 of the Atomic Energy Act, Cap. 154 requires that an authorized person shall institute security measures to prevent, protect against, and ensure timely detection of theft, loss of, and unauthorized use or removal of radioactive sources during all stages of management. The Atomic Energy (Security of Radioactive Materials) Regulations, 2021 specify the minimum requirements for security of radioactive materials in use and storage. Click here for the brochure>>

    Authorisation Brochure
  • Section 31 of the Atomic Energy Act, Cap. 154 provides that no person shall acquire, own, possess, operate, import, export, hire, loan, receive, use, install, commission, decommission, transport, store, sell, distribute, dispose of, transfer, modify, upgrade, process, manufacture or undertake any practice related to the application of atomic energy unless permitted by an authorization issued under this Act. • Brochure on Radon                                                                                            Radon is a radioactive gas that’s found naturally in the environment, including in rocks, soil, and groundwater. It can enter buildings through their foundations and become trapped. Radon is colorless and odorless, so you can breathe it without knowing it in your home, school, workplace, and other indoor locations. Breathing in radon consistently over time can increase your risk of developing lung cancer. Click here for the brochure.
